Move over loans and overdrafts? Will Britain’s SMEs be changing the way they fund their business?
The SME Finance Monitor is frequently quoted in the press and is now widely acknowledged as the ‘go-to’ for information on finance for SMEs in the UK.
As an independent, authoritative study the report has helped inform an economics paper published by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) entitled SME Access to Finance. In the Rt Hon the Lord Heseltine’s October 2012 report, ‘No Stone Unturned in the Pursuit of Growth’, data from the SME Finance Monitor lends weight to Lord Heseltine’s discussion on access to finance.
Furthermore, evidence from the SME Finance Monitor has been used to inform The Times’ ‘Funding Britain’s Growth’ supplement, and, across the pond, the Monitor featured in an article in The New York Times entitled ‘A Quandary for Britain’s Banks’, where the data was used as evidence of the number of SMEs neither wanting nor applying for loans. That is in addition to the many writers and journalists that rely upon the SME Finance Monitor for a balanced, informed view on SMEs and their access to finance, including those writing on behalf of The Financial Times, The Telegraph, The Guardian and Daily Mail, as well as members of preeminent lobbying organisations such as the CBI and the EEF.
