An ageing population, the closure of many final salary schemes, and the forthcoming introduction of ‘NEST’ (National Employment Savings Trust) make pensions a “hot topic” financially, but one that many consumers shy away from or find difficult to understand.
BDRC Continental has worked on both sides of the pensions industry – amongst consumers and amongst pension schemes and providers, through our work for the Pensions Regulator (tPR).
Example projects include:
Understanding Pension issues
Qualitative research for The Pensions Regulator which aimed to explore the employers role in facilitating employees’ understanding of pension issues. Focus groups and depth interviews were conducted employers at a range of SMEs to review a new guide aimed at helping them answer some of the questions they may receive from their employees. The outcome was an improved, user-friendly guide.
Employee attitudes towards Pensions
To inform the introduction of a new money purchase pension scheme, qualitative research was conducted for a FTSE 100 employer to explore staff attitudes to pension provision.
tPR Guidelines
An assessment of recent tPR guidelines to improve record-keeping standards.
Preparation for later life
3,000 telephone interviews and attitudinal segmentation for DWP and PADA to understand how consumers are preparing financially for later life and how they feel about the future. This was used by DWP to inform their communications and marketing activity particularly in the run up to the launch of NEST. To read more about 'Saving for later life', please click here.
Institutional client satisfaction
A global online study for a major investment house to evaluate satisfaction with service delivery amongst pension fund managers and their consulting actuaries.
Tracking awareness of the NEST initiative
Using our Business Omnibus, we have seen awareness rise from 25 per cent early in 2009 to 36 per cent in March 2010. Awareness is still much lower among smaller businesses.
