Visionary Insight - through dynamic market research

Tourism

Tourism is one of the largest (and perhaps, undervalued) industries in the UK, accounting for 3.5% of the UK economy, worth around £75 billion and employing 1.4 million people.  We work regularly on behalf of national, regional and local tourism organisations to assist with development of tourism, whether the issues are at the strategic, operational or marketing communications level.  We are equally at home with investigating domestic or overseas markets.

Our recent clients include:

  • VisitBritain
  • VisitScotland
  • Tourism Ireland
  • VisitLondon
  • East Midlands Tourism
  • East of England Tourism
  • OneNorthEast
  • NorthWest Development Agency

We aim to support the sector by speaking at conferences and publishing papers and are active members of the Tourism Society.

BDRC are responsible for the design, management and reporting of three of VisitBritain’s major industry studies – the Survey of Visits to Visitor Attractions, England Attractions Monitor and England Occupancy Survey.

Specific issues we have addressed for our clients in the recent past include:

  • Segmentation of visitors – behaviourally, attitudinally and geodemographically
  • Brand campaign assessments
  • Brand positioning
  • Attitudes among overseas visitors
  • Business tourism and expenditure
  • Attitudes to websites
  • Quality standards of accommodation, attractions and conferences
  • Barriers to visiting
  • Brochure and new product development
